Nagy Júlia - Miskolc, Bükki kör előadás

Our company has been working closely with the Bükki Kör for two years in developing Miskolc as a sustainable tourist destination. We were able to present this work to the inbound travel agencies of the Association of Hungarian Travel Agencies.

Sustainability is one of the biggest challenges of our time, which is also receiving increasing attention in the field of tourism. It is in this spirit that the MUISZ study tour for inbound travel agencies was organized in Miskolc, in the picturesque surroundings of the Bükk Mountains.

The program was put together by the Bükki Circle, which has supported the expansion of Miskolc's sustainable destination offering elements through research, product and network development, and knowledge sharing since its establishment in the past two years. At the two-day event, the Bükki Circle presented this process to the participants through practical examples, led by Enikő Fekete-Angyal, the president of the Bükki Circle.

During the study tour, the participants visited the Ellipsum Adventure Bath, toured the historic city center of Miskolc, the Miskolc National Theater, the Diósgyőr Castle, which is nearing completion of its renovation, and participated in the „Edible Forest” program, during which they could taste the gastronomic specialties of the Bükk mountain flora. The program was not limited to presenting natural beauties, but also provided an insight into the local culture and gastronomy, thus offering a real cultural and taste experience.

On the second day, participants were introduced to the services and sustainable operating model of the first Hungarian hotel to receive the Good Travel Seal, Hotel Palota Lillafüred, which sets an inspiring example for the sector. This was followed by a block of thought-provoking presentations, in which Miklós Czeiszing, Head of the German Tourist Office, presented good practices in sustainable tourism in Germany, drawing attention to the fact that, according to the Office's research, 73% of the Hungarian population already consider sustainable experience promises important.

Nagy Júlia, the managing director of Innotime Hungary Kft., as a professional advisor to Bükki Kör, spoke about how significant steps have been taken in Hungary in the past year and a half in the field of developing sustainable tourism offerings, in which the Bükki Kör pilot programs have always been an example for other destinations. She highlighted that Miskolc was the first city in the country where a complex destination sustainable tourism audit was prepared on behalf of a member of Bükki Kör, and in the coming weeks, the pilot program will be available to guests, within the framework of which the sustainable tourism offerings of Miskolc will become transparent for guests, while they can gain experience and knowledge during their city visit. The software background for this was developed by Innotime, while the content is provided by Bükki Kör.

As part of the field program on the second day, the participants visited Avas, where the project, which was included in the world's best sustainable tourism practices in 2023 in the Green Destinations TOP100 sustainable tourism good practice competition, was presented.

This special event clearly highlighted how Miskolc, as the city of Bükk, integrates environmentally conscious, sustainable thinking into all segments of tourism, which is essential for the Hungarian tourism sector to contribute to achieving global sustainability goals in the future.
